A Pocket Knife Tradition

!±8± A Pocket Knife Tradition

I think back to the age 7 or maybe 8 my Dad gave me my first knife. Of course long before I was given that first knife dad and mom taught me all the safe ways to cope pocket knives, to mention just a few. Always whittle or carve away from your body, do not use your knife when you are close to an additional one person, do not use your blade for a screwdriver or pry bar because the blade may snap the tip off which might get in your eye and Always keep your pocket knives blades sharp because you have less control of a dull blade because you have to use more force to cut with and serious accidents may happen.

Always keep you knife clean, the best way to clean a knife is by hand with warm soapy water and towel and blow dry. And the list goes on. We will cover security in depth in the near future.
One of the proudest moments in a father's life is giving his son that first knife. Again reasoning back as my children grew up, three girls and two boys. I remember giving my boys their first pocket knives, I wonder if they still have that knife. Yes I said boys, it was unheard of giving your daughters or granddaughters knife! I now feel that daughters and granddaughters should be able to share that phenomenal experience. I know that I do not have that special knife that my father gave to me. Any way I do have a couple of the knives that once belonged to my dad also a couple that my brother once owned.

Thousands of boys industrialized a passion for pocket knives from that special day. As the boys grew into young men their love for knives grew. They collected as many as they could afford. Now as grown men with some of us senior men have a great option of knives. Some of us haven't purchased a knife for many years. Most all of us young or old carry pocket knives nearly all the time and each one of us has a favorite. It is time to find that first knife for your son or daughter, or grandson or granddaughter, maybe a special knife for yourself or a special friend.
